Query Letters

Oh, query letters. How I dread thee. Why can't I just send in a short video of me summarizing my novel in interpretive dance?

Healing Waves Anthology Available!

So, remember how Nature tried to annihilate Japan back in March? You probably saw the awe-inspiring video of the enormous tidal wave eating Sendai and spitting out flaming cars and debris. Well, it's been a while but people still need help over there. So...

If you buy this very cheap anthology, all the money goes to help the victims. Oh, yeah, I have a story in here too, one of my favorite pieces, a reprint from the now-defunct Les Bonnes Fees webzine: "Snow as It Falls". It's retelling of the Japanese folktale "The Crane Wife". I've read the anthology; everything in it is worth reading, so for $3.99 it's a bargain!

You can download it in various formats; if you have a question, ask me!

Good Night, Sweet Prints

It was with shock and sadness that I read a notice in my e-mail today. The Absent Willow Review is going down. Not only were they one of the best, most entertaining SpecFic e-zines on the Net, they also published me once.

TAWR was a great market to work with. They responded promptly, had a relatively short lead time and made your work look good. They were also flexible; I once submitted a story to a contest, and they contacted me because my submission had not gone through, then allowed me to submit in an alternative manner. Very cool of them.

They were also open-minded; while they didn't shy away from conventions like zombies and vampires, they also published some really unique, crazy stuff.

According to the notice, the website will remain up until December 1st, so you can still check out some of the awesome stories showcased there. There is also an anthology (that my piece is in!) available on Amazon.

Dinosaur Feathers Bitches!

So here's some interesting news that pertains to my short story, "Buster" which should be available from Darwin's Evolutions any time now. The titular character is an oviraptor, a smallish dinosaur that made a living eating the eggs of other dinosaurs (with American cheese and ketchup, presumably). Recent science tells us that many dinosaurs actually had feathers, and the badass illustration by Jennifer Miller for "Buster" shows an oviraptor with feathers (see above for the badassery).Link

My husband, a scientist who reads a metric fuckton of scientific journals all the time, sent me a couple highly scientific articles about some dudes in Canada who found dinosaur feathers in chunks of amber. Pretty sweet, huh? The feathers look mostly to be gray, black, brown, a little reddish- boring colors, but hey, they're feathers from a dinosaur!

I found a less scientific article geared toward idiots like me online:

New Work on October 3rd

I have a short story in the anthology Healing Waves, which comes out October 3rd in Amazon's Kindle store. It's a Japanese-themed charity anthology from Sky Warrior Press, and I've read the proof through. The stories are all pretty damn good (mine included, ha!)and all profits are going to charities to help out the victims of this year's power combo earthquake/tsunami (it's been months but you know they still need some help!). I should be getting a copy of the cover art soon so I will post it up ASAP!

I'm not making a dime off this, but buy it anyway, it's good writing and a good cause!
